Isla Mujeres was declared by the Mayans centuries ago, as a holy place to worship the goddess Ixchel (goddess of fertility). When Francisco Hernández de Córdoba by accident came to what is now Isla Mujeres in 1517 thus christened by female figurines found there. Today is part of the beauties that make up the tourist attractions of the Mexican Caribbean, highlighting the beauty of their natural surroundings and the warmth of its people. Some of the most important attractions of the island are the natural park "Jug" and the area called "Punta Sur" are located at the southern tip of Isla Mujeres, as part of the state of Quintana Roo, on the Mexican Caribbean Sea.
